Video has recently surfaced of a classroom fight at a Mount Vernon elementary school.
The video shows fifth-grade students wrestling in a makeshift ring at Edward Williams Elementary School. According to the school employee who showed the video to News 12 Westchester, brawls happen at the school all the time.
The employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims teachers watch as the students fight. However, during the video, one teacher can be heard telling the students to stop fighting.
The Mount Vernon School District issued a statement to News 12 saying:
"District officials have reviewed the video in question and found that at no time did a teacher or any other staff member encourage students. The teacher is heard repeatedly voicing verbal commands to the students, asking them to stop and call for security. This incident took place in February. The students involved were disciplined and suspended at that time. The district does not encourage children to engage in violent or harmful behavior."
