JetBlue is scaling back its operations in New Jersey, announcing plans to eliminate multiple seasonal routes out of Newark Liberty International Airport and close local technical and flight crew bases this fall.

As part of the upcoming service changes, JetBlue will permanently end its seasonal transcontinental service connecting Newark to both Los Angeles (LAX) and Las Vegas (LAS).

Company officials stated that the pullbacks are part of a strategic realignment to reallocate aircraft and resources toward South Florida. JetBlue is looking to aggressively expand its focus city at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, seizing on a market vacancy left by Spirit Airlines' recent exit.

The airline's reduction will also significantly impact its local workforce infrastructure. JetBlue confirmed it will completely shutter its Inflight crew base at Newark this fall. Additionally, the carrier will close its Technical Operations maintenance bases at both Newark and LaGuardia.

Addressing concerns regarding staffing, JetBlue emphasized that the facility closures will not result in layoffs for its tri-state employees.

"Crewmembers will be able to bid or transfer into other bases, and no crewmembers will lose their jobs due to these closures," the airline said in an official statement, noting that the adjustments are meant to realign the operational footprint needed to support its shifting flight schedules going forward.
