Friends and neighbors in Ossining held a vigil Saturday to remember the immigrants allegedly killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents throughout the country.
The event at the Market Square was both an expression of mourning for the immigrants who have died and a protest against the ICE officers who are being blamed for their deaths.
Among those who died most recently was 25-year-old Johan Sebastian Duran Guerro, a Colombian man who was allegedly shot and killed on July 13 by an ICE agent in Maine. The other was Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old father from Mexico who was fatally shot on July 7 during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas.
According to a report by the New York Times, Guerrero was not even the person ICE agents were looking for.
Vigil attendees signed a banner that bear the images of the two men. They said they hope peaceful vigils like this one will somehow make a difference.
News 12 reached out to ICE for comment but had not heard back as of Saturday night.
