Hundreds of bicyclists camped overnight in Montrose Sunday night ahead of a week-long, over 500-mile ride that they hope will lead to a cure for cancer.
Hundreds of tents and a lineup of bicycles took over the grounds at the Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School.
The bicyclists with the charitable organization Empire State Ride are on a mission to defeat cancer, by riding from their starting point in Staten Island to Niagara Falls by next Saturday.
Each Rider raises a minimum of $3,500 to participate.
Now in its 12th year, the annual event has raised more than $13 million for cancer research.
Empire State Ride founder Terry Bourgeois says more than 300 riders will cross the finish line in Niagara Falls, after the weeklong, 500-mile trip.
The bicyclists will roll out early Monday morning for what will be a 90-mile trip.
Empire State Ride will soon be opening up registration for bicyclists for next year's ride.
