Parents are on alert in Hastings-on-Hudson after a coyote was spotted near an elementary school.
Officials say the animal was seen Wednesday morning near Hillside Elementary School.
Village police responded to the area, but the coyote had already left by the time officers arrived.
Police remained on scene for a time to ensure the animal did not return.
The sighting comes as authorities warn of increased coyote activity in the area.
Officials are reminding residents to take precautions, especially when it comes to pets.
They urge people to keep dogs leashed and closely supervised when outdoors.
Authorities also say if a coyote approaches, you should make loud noises and try to scare it away.
