Ultramarathoner to row to raise money to feed COVID-19 responders
A Chappaqua ultramarathoner is raising money to help others doing the COVID-19 crisis, and he's doing it all without leaving his garage.
Eric Gelber is rowing the distance of three marathons - 78.6 miles - in around 14 hours. That's about 13,000 pulls on his rowing machine.
Gelber's mission is to feed his community. He's using the event to raise money to help the Mount Kisco restaurant Stone Fire in its efforts to provide free meals to first responders, medical personnel and families in need.
The event will be livestreamed on his Instagram.
"When I do these type of fundraisers I think it's important to really push yourself and I feel the more I'm willing to push myself the more people are willing to donate," says Gelbert. "My message is anybody can do anything to help people in need right now." Gelber has raised $7,000 so far.
