Ukrainian-Americans in the Hudson Valley are marking three years of the war.
A candlelight vigil was held at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Monday in Yonkers.
"We were hoping the war would be over," says Oksana Kulynych, a Yonkers resident at the candlelight vigil. For many at the vigil, they say everything that's happened in the last three years hits very close to home, as they have family who live there. "I'm in contact with my cousin in Ukraine now, and they're so worried about what's going to happen there," says Kulynych.
"They're OK, they're surviving but it's under tremendous stress as you can imagine," says Jerry Kiciuk, a Yonkers resident at the candlelight vigil.
People at the vigil emphasized why it was important for them to commemorate three years of the war.
"It's important to show that we have unity in our community,"says Roman Kozicky, a Yonkers resident at the vigil.
