A house fire in Mount Vernon displaced two families on Monday morning. City fire officials said it happened at 312 South Third Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the attic. Officials said firefighters brought the flames under control in less than 15 minutes.
Two tenants told News 12 they were inside the home when the fire began. Officials said no one was hurt.
Fire officials also said two cats and a dog are believed to have escaped.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
