A firefighter is recovering after being hurt while battling a house fire in Lewisboro.

The fire broke out just after 8 p.m. Monday on Elmwood Road, according to the Vista Fire Department.

Officials say a passerby called in the fire, and no one was home at the time.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the roof and heavy flames in the back of the house.

During the response, a firefighter fell from the first floor into the basement.

Crews quickly worked to remove the firefighter from the home.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital and later released.

Photos from the scene show heavy damage inside the home, with floors and walls blackened and charred.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
