Cashless toll collection will begin on the Tappan Zee Bridge this weekend after a delay due to expected rain.
The new system for the span is scheduled to go online Saturday night into Sunday morning. It was originally slated to go live Friday night, but officials pushed it back by a day.
The rain would have interfered with crews who need to paint new lines to match the updated traffic patterns, officials say.
Once the switch is complete, drivers can pay with an E-ZPass. If they don't have one, their cars will be photographed passing through, and they'll get a bill in the mail.
Crews have recently been installing signs to direct drivers through with minimal delays.
The Thruway Authority has been testing the equipment for the system over the past few weeks. During the changeover, Westchester-bound traffic will be stopped to allow workers to uncover the signs and change the traffic patterns through the toll plaza.
The change will allow for demolition of the old toll booths in Tarrytown, and some lanes will be closed until that work is completed, according to officials.
They say they want traffic running smoothly by the Monday morning rush.
