The town of Weston celebrated the installation of its first-ever sidewalks with a ribbon-cutting Wednesday.
The project includes the construction of 5,500 linear feet of new sidewalk.
The new sidewalks are near Town Center and along School Road.
The town says the sidewalks will improve walkability on both the school and municipal campuses and will also provide students with a safer pathway to and from the Weston Shopping Center.
First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor says this is a historic moment for the town.
"Our first sidewalks bring so much to our community. They are recreational spaces as we said, they provide safe access to our municipal and school campuses, and they also increase traffic to our local businesses," says Nestor.
The project was funded through a nearly $900,000 grant from the state's Community Connectivity Grant Program.
