Several police agencies are searching an area of Orange County, close to where the body of a local woman was discovered 40 years ago - an investigation that was just recently revived.
Officials say New York State Police has been collaborating with Warwick police and the Orange County District Attorney's Office on an investigation in Pine Island on Little York Road since early Thursday morning.
Officials have not yet shared the reason for the investigation.
The investigation, though, is taking place just a few hundred feet from the cement water tank where Dawn Marino’s body was found in 1987.
Marino was reported missing in May 1981.
She was last seen outside a bar in Pine Island.
She was 22.
Just last week, as part of a campaign to put more public attention on the 43-year-old case, Warwick police escorted a News 12 crew to the cement tank deep in the woods off Little York Road.
Some acquaintances of Marino who were involved in previous investigations into Marino's death still live on the section of Little York Road hat was blocked to foot and car traffic.
Investigators brought in all-terrain vehicles, a front-end loader and digging equipment to the scene Thursday.
Warwick police posted on social media stating the road would be closed to traffic for much of Thursday.
They said earlier Thursday they might hold a media briefing later in the day.
A News 12 crew remains on scene working various sources and awaiting the next update from police.
Friends of the Marino family said they and the family have been quite pleased that the case is getting another look by detectives, but they were still unsure Thursday afternoon of the exact reason for the sudden investigation.
