A coastal storm battered the Hudson Valley overnight and made a mess of the morning commute.

Major parkways, including the Sprain Brook, Taconic, Saw Mill River and Hutchinson River parkways, were all shut down at some point during the storm.

As usual, the Bronx River Parkway was the hardest hit, with the river overflowing its banks and turning the parkway into a raging torrent.

Officials say it will be hours before the Bronx River Parkway reopens and that motorists need to find alternative routes.
