The City of Yonkers is cracking down on double parking by increasing fees and more enforcement.
Residents told News 12 the double parking throughout the city is frustrating, and it poses a safety issue.
John Rubbo, Yonkers City Council majority leader, says the City Council just increased the fees from $90 to $150.
It would go into effect as soon as the mayor signs the legislation, which Rubbo says could be next week.
He says they plan to enforce this through new technology.
Rubbo added that Yonkers Police Department's 2nd Precinct issued100 additional tickets in this area for double parking in May.
"At times, people will be double parking, and we have emergency vehicles trying to get by or school buses that are trying to get by," says Rubbo.
