A 19-year-old collided with a car while riding an electric scooter through a crosswalk at North Avenue and Hamilton Avenue around 7:30 a.m., police said.
Investigators say the teen, who was seriously injured, was not wearing a helmet and appeared to be wearing headphones at the time of the crash.
The female driver of the car remained at the scene and was not injured.
The teen suffered a head laceration and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in The Bronx. Police say he was conscious and talking both at the scene and at the hospital.
Detectives used a FARO scanner — a laser-based device that captures detailed 3D measurements — to document the scene and speed up the investigation.
Police say the crash appears to be an accident and not criminal in nature.
