Frustrations are growing about construction on a bridge in Ardsley and why it's taking so long.

The Ardsley Road Bridge has been under construction for the last five years. The second half of construction started a few months ago.

It's being rebuilt for structural and safety reasons.

The bridge goes over the Sprain Brook Parkway.

Some people who drive over the bridge every day are frustrated.

"Do we have to wait another five years for this to be done?" says Stephen Beech, an Ardsley resident. "I just don't see any work being done."

"I feel like it's been years at this point, so I was wondering why it's taking so long," says Nicole Bloomfield, a Hastings resident.

Drivers say the narrow lane and construction is making it unsafe.

"All you need is one person who is taking a chance, and you could have a major accident," says Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

The bridge is maintained by the state Department of Transportation.

Earlier this year, a temporary stop light was installed on the bridge.

"The rehabilitation of the Ardsley Road Bridge over the Sprain Brook Parkway, which began in the spring of 2021, is progressing and is expected to be completed by the end of the current construction season. The bridge required more extensive repairs than initially anticipated, which resulted in work progressing beyond the original projected completion date in the fall of 2023," a spokesperson for the NYSDOT said in a statement.

Feiner says it could take six to eight weeks for those supplies to be ready.

But some say it needs to be done sooner.

"I avoid it now. Basically, I try to find any route other than that route because there's just a tremendously large line of traffic," says Bloomfield.

Some say it's not so bad.

"Today, for a while we were stuck and when we had a chance to go it was very easy," says Nathan Ellenberger, a Hartsdale resident.
