The spirit of giving is flowing from Westchester as thousands of bottles of water are heading to Flint, Michigan.
For the past month, schools, churches, community groups and ordinary people have dropped off cases of water at the Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers. The center had hoped to collect 5,000, but greatly exceeded that goal.
Jim Bostic, the executive director of the center, is already in Michigan waiting for the water to be delivered to ensure it gets into the hands of those who need it.
Ron's Trucking, a Yonkers moving company, donated three trucks to make sure clean water gets to Flint. "This shows what a great community we all could be, state to state, city to city, we can all support each other, make sure everybody does well," says Rocco Commisso, of Ron's Trucking.
Residents of Flint, which is located 70 miles north of Detroit, have been exposed to contaminated water coming out of their taps ever since the state switched the water supply coming into the city to save money. The water contains high levels of lead, iron and toxic waste.
