A former NYPD sergeant pleaded guilty in a drunk driving crash that took the life of a Peekskill man, according to New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Tiffany Howell, 48, was off-duty, driving in the wrong direction on the Taconic Parkway in Mount Pleasant when she crashed head-on into 61-year-old Manuel Boitel's car. It happened on Jan. 22, 2026.
Investigators say Howell was traveling around 50 mph and had a blood alcohol content of at least 0.18 at the time of the late-night crash.
Boitel was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died.
News 12 spoke with his family on multiple occasions. They said he was a great father and husband who worked as a doorman in Manhattan's Upper East Side.
Prosecutors say Howell pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and manslaughter on Wednesday, nearly seven months after the crash.
She is being held on a $250,000 bond, or a $500,000 partially secured bond, with a $100,000 cash alternative.
Howell faces up to four to 12 years behind bars and is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 28.
