Some green-thumbed thieves have been stealing flowers in White Plains, and residents say it's making their hard work go to waste.
In the past month alone, nearly $2,000 worth of pansies, chrysanthemums and other plants have been uprooted and stolen from six gardens around the city.
The White Plains Beautification Foundation is responsible for the installations and says the damages are frustrating.
Those carrying out the back-breaking work say the thefts are occurring right after the flowers are planted, most likely because the flowers are yet to root and are easier to pull out.
The median on Mamaroneck Avenue is among the targeted locations. The foundation says that the thefts have become such a problem that it is looking for ways to increase its security measures.
