Procrastinators have a few more hours to get their paperwork together and file tax returns or ask for an extension. The deadline is midnight.

Filing can be done online or by mail as long as it's postmarked with today's date.

People filing late face fines. 

Some residents mailing their returns at the Greystone Post Office tell News 12 it costs more to pay taxes online. "If I pay online with a credit card they are going to take three percent of what I'm owing, which can be a significant amount of money," says Todd Patton, of Yonkers.

Greystone Post Office Branch Manager Paul Micheli is spending quite a bit of time in the lobby this afternoon helping last minute filers. "If it needs to be postmarked today, they should be using certified mail to get a return receipt. If they really need to mail it, make sure they are using express mail or priority mail. Express mail is guaranteed to the next day," says Micheli.

President Barack Obama is using Tax Day to draw new attention to family friendly tax proposals to expand existing tax credits and create new credits. He'll head to Charlotte, North Carolina to promote the proposals and answer questions at a town hall.
