A Tarrytown school bus monitor was arrested for allegedly beating developmentally disabled adults for making noise on the bus.
Police say 25-year-old Martine Barber was hired to help ferry people to and from the St. Jude Habilitation Center, which trains developmentally disabled adults. A neighbor told police she saw Barber beating a woman and two males on the bus while it was parked. Police say Barber admitted beating the passengers with a leather belt to get them to behave.
Barber is charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. Police say the passengers involved were not injured. The bus company says they have assigned a new driver and monitor to the route.
