A Spring Valley High School student pleaded not guilty to charges that he stabbed a classmate Tuesday morning.
Christopher Bermeo, 16, is being charged as an adult with attempted murder after police say he attacked a 17-year-old student in a hallway at around 9 a.m. Bermeo stabbed the victim four times with a knife that looks like a pen, according to police.
Prosecutors say that Bermeo is a suspect in a recent robbery, describing him as a flight risk and a violent young man with a long rap sheet. Police sources say the junior is also a suspect in an alleged rape.
In court, Bermeo claimed that he was being bullied and was defending himself at the time of the stabbing. His alleged victim is recovering in Nyack Hospital.
Bermeo is being held on $500,000 bail in Rockland County Jail.
