1,486ds agoAn Eastchester family says the town threatened them with a fine and jail time for putting up Black Lives Matter signs in their front yard.
For the past week, the signs hung on a home along Webster Avenue, until the family discovered a warning letter.
In it, the town says banners are prohibited and that they could face a $1,000 fine, a year in jail or both if it wasn't removed.
The family says they're shocked because they've hung similar-sized banners on their home for the past decade as part of their annual Halloween display.
The family removed the banner temporarily but say they are going to keep fighting to put it back up, telling News 12 it's a matter of freedom of speech.
The family says their calls haven’t been returned by the Codes Department.
News 12 has also reached out to the town and is waiting to hear back.
