For Andrea Ruggiero and Grace Battaglia, work at Open Door in Ossining is anything but a job.

In the early 1990s, the sisters immigrated from Ecuador to the United States. Upon the move to Westchester, the 8- and 5-year-old girls found adjusting to life in America to be daunting.

They found comfort in a medical facility called Open Door, which provides health care to families at an affordable cost. People there spoke the same language they did, and seemed to really care about people, the sisters say.

Grace currently works as the director of marketing for Open Door, and Andrea serves as vice president of community health.

"I think there's a certain responsibility that comes with having achieved the American dream, and that responsibility is being able once you're in a position to give back and to help," Battaglia says.
