Sen. Chuck Schumer told News 12 that he is concerned about possible spying on Americans using TikTok.
He says he wants to hear from the company's CEO before any formal discussions about a nationwide ban of the video sharing app.
"There's a company called ByteDance, which owns TikTok, which we think has a relationship with the Chinese government," Schumer says. "But we've got to check it out before we do anything."
TikTok's CEO is set to testify in a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee next month about the app's privacy and data security practices, TikTok's impact on children, and the company's relationship with the Chinese Community Party.
TikTok says it does not share information with the Chinese government.
