A landlord in Spring Valley will pay thousands of dollars in fines for violations found at his 17 John St. property last month following a fire.

According to Rockland's Office of Buildings and Codes, the owner Joel Fekete, of Brooklyn, has signed a consent order, said no one remains in the house and filed for a demolition permit.

A spokesperson for Rockland County tells News 12 that Fekete will pay a $5,500 fine, must keep his property vacant and continue with demolition.

If he does not, he will have to pay the full $11,000 fine, as well as fix or demolish the home.

OBC also allegedly found change in use and occupancy violations at two of Fekete’s other properties in the Village of Spring Valley during their inspections.

Last month, News 12 reported on the problems officials found at the John Street home after first responders went to there to put out a fire.

It was believed then that the fire started by a candle in a closet being used as a bedroom.

Fekete’s is scheduled to be back in Rockland State Supreme Court later this month.

News 12 reached out to him for comment bus has not heard back.
