A retired state trooper from the Hudson Valley is home recovering after spending six weeks in the hospital with COVID-19.
Danny Fernandez was on a ventilator at Orange Regional Medical Center in April for weeks and wasn't getting better.
His condition was so bad that family took his plight public and asked former co-workers and complete strangers to help ensure Fernandez received the convalescent plasma he now credits for saving his life.
The 54-year-old, 9/11 first responder says he lost 50 pounds and has some minor side effects from the virus and his time in the hospital, but is otherwise OK and humbled by the love shown from the community.
