Residents in Nanuet celebrated leap day on Tuesday.
Some people said that the day is special because it only occurs once every four years.
Introduced in 46 B.C., leap days were added to keep clocks and calendars in sync with the Earth and its seasons.
Some national companies offered leap day specials, including Pizza Hut, who gave away free pizzas to anyone who could prove they were born on Feb. 29.
