A former Mount Vernon police sergeant is set to spend six months in federal prison for using excessive force, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Mario Stewart used a Taser seven times over the course of several minutes on a man having a mental crisis.
Stewart was working for the emergency services unit at the time of the incident.
Authorities say he will also do six months of home confinement upon his release.
