A warning about sunscreens has been issued with summer right around the corner.
Yonkers-based Consumer Reports says most sunscreen may not be protecting your skin as well as you thought.
Researchers tested 65 sunscreens and found that nearly 50 percent of sunscreens, with SPF claims of 30 or higher, tested below their advertised sun protection level. The Banana Boat Kids Tear-Free, Sting-Free SPF 50 lotion and CVS Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50 both tested at an SPF 8.
Some of the best performing sunscreens in the study include La Roche-Posay Anthellos 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk lotion, Pure Sun Defense SPF 50 lotion, Banana Boat SunComfort Continuous Spray SPF 50+, Aveeno Protect + Hydrate SPF 30, and No-Ad Sport SPF 50 lotion.
Testers say the lotion-type sunscreens are better than sprays for protection.
