Yorktown is preparing a plan to help struggling small businesses recuperate.
Town Supervisor Matt Slater says they’re not trying to get ahead of the state, but instead trying to prepare safely for when the New York Pause is lifted.
News 12 is told the town is waiving fees and expediting the process to apply for outdoor dining permits from eight weeks to one week.
Owners of Furci’s restaurant say expanding their outdoor dining space would be ideal.
“We’re allowed now to use all of the courtyards, so that we can seat more of our customers and have them socially distanced,” says owner Deneen Furci.
Gabriel Yakubov, a barber, is also exploring the idea of cutting hair outdoors, saying in part, “As long as the customer feels safe and that’s what they want to do we’re willing to do whatever it takes.”
Genesis Jewelry store is taking the necessary measures to reopen with social distancing rules in place as well.
“We set up sneeze guards, we put blue tape on the floor six feet apart,” says jeweler Steve Galloper.
Officials believe another way to assist the town’s economic recovery is by attracting new businesses like Nestle Waters who plans to settle in.
Another positive surprise is the approval to build a distribution center where Verizon was once housed on Crompound Road.
