Family and friends of a convicted Yonkers man rallied for his freedom Thursday in New York City.

Tazza Salvato says her fiance, Lorenzo Johnson, has been in prison for almost two decades for a murder she says he never committed. Johnson was convicted on charges he was a lookout in a 1995 drug deal that killed one person in Harrisburg, Pa.

His conviction was reversed three years ago, but that decision was overturned, sending Johnson back behind bars. He is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Among those at the rally was Peekskill native Jeffrey Deskovic, who served 16 years for a rape and murder he did not commit. He says his Manhattan-based foundation is fighting for Johnson's freedom.

The foundation says new evidence shows that Johnson was in New York when the murder happened and that prosecution witnesses were coerced. A spokesperson from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office says it is looking at and investigating this new information.

Johnson's mother says she feels like she has lost her son twice, but is confident that he will return home as a free man one day. After the rally, supporters boarded a bus to Harrisburg as part of the next step to gain Johnson's freedom.
