In response to the recent terrorist attacks in Israel, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its community.

Sheriff Kevin McConville announced in a Facebook post Monday that the department has informed all religious institutions in the county about the implementation of frequent and random checks at all houses of worship.

This heightened vigilance follows the tragic incident at a music festival in Israel over the weekend, where over 260 individuals lost their lives. Revelers at an all-night dance party near the Gaza border were subjected to an attack by the militant group Hamas shortly after sunrise on Saturday.

Among the survivors, including some New Yorkers, there are reports of individuals being held hostage.

While there is currently no specific threat to the region, the sheriff's office emphasizes that they will continue to closely monitor the county for any developments.
