Despite a sickened President Donald Trump and three Republican senators, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday that they will stay on target to confirm what would be the president's third Supreme Court justice.

Republican senators want to move forward with Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination and hold hearings on Oct. 12. 

Sen. Mike Lee and Thom Tillis are both on the Judiciary Committee. Sen. Ron Johnson has also become sickened by the virus that has killed more than 200,000 Americans.

With a 12-to-10 majority on the panel, the GOP will need all of its members present to vote on Barrett's nomination.

Professor Alain Sanders, of St. Peter’s University, says if Sens. Tillis and Lee are not available, it complicates the nomination timetable.

“The Democrats have already made it clear that they believe with two senators testing positive, holding actual hearings is too dangerous and they argue that holding virtual hearings will not be adequate to assess Judge Barrett," he says.

Sen. Lee says he will quarantine for 10 days and return in time for the hearings.

Senate Republicans canceled legislative work until Oct. 19, but are planning to vote on sending Barrett's nomination to the full Senate on Oct. 22.
