The man accused in the stabbing death of a library security guard in Spring Valley Tuesday was arrested just weeks earlier on attempted rape charges but was released from jail without bail.

Orangetown police say Blanchard Glaudin was arrested in December for attempting to rape a patient at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, where he was a patient.

“He was arraigned in Nyack Justice Court by the Honorable Robert Noble, and was held on $10,000 bail. At that point, we remanded him to the Rockland County Jail because he could not make bail,” said Orangetown Police Capt. James Brown.

But for reasons police say they don't know, Glaudin was released from county jail.

Just weeks later, he allegedly fatally stabbed security guard Sandra Wilson at the Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley after she told the 25-year-old to turn down his music.

County District Attorney Tom Walsh says he's now looking into the mystery of why Glaudin was let out of county jail without bail.

“We've asked for all the court records so we can do a complete and thorough review and examination of what led up to the release of Mr. Blanchard,” Walsh says.

Walsh would not say whether the new bail reform laws played a role in the suspect's release.

“I don't want to speculate on any of the issues of what were the reasons or events that took place other than that the gentleman was released and I need to ascertain why,” Walsh says, adding that he hopes to have answers in two to three weeks.
