Police are enlisting the public's help in finding the driver of silver compact sedan they say is responsible for a hit-and-run accident in New Rochelle that left a teenager struggling to walk again.

Police received the car's license plate number through an anonymous tip, but have not been able to find the car or driver at the address on the vehicle registration. They are hoping witnesses to the accident will come forward.

According to police, just before midnight last Friday, 18-year-old Deigo Herrera was hit near the intersection of Weyman Avenue and Woodbury Street while riding his bike home. Police say the driver never slowed down after hitting Herrera.

Herrera got out of the ICU Thursday at Westchester Medical Center. Doctors say he will have to spend extensive time in a rehabilitation hospital, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
