Investigators say a worker at the Peekskill Department of Motor Vehicles was fired for allegedly dishing out passing grades on license tests.
Last summer, the state inspector general received a complaint that Crystal Mosely was accepting bribes for handing out passing grades on commercial license exams. A subsequent investigation couldn?t prove the claim, but the inspector general said there was evidence Mosely helped her husband pass the test by grading his exam.
The state Department of Motor Vehicles fired Mosely after they said she confessed and told them similar occurrences happen all the time. In a separate incident, DMV officials said a resident, Jason McCloud, approached two DMV employees about a month later and offered $80 for answers to an exam. McCloud was arrested and charged with a felony.
The inspector general said the Peekskill DMV office is susceptible to corruption and fraud. State officials suggest the DMV make it clear to employees from the beginning that they will face serious penalties for accepting a bribe.
