It’s been a year since Tropical Storm Isaias plowed through the Hudson Valley and caused power outages for several neighborhoods.

Joe Jenkins is a spokesperson for Central Hudson Gas and Electric. He says they’re proud of their response, but Central Hudson has made changes since.

“Isaias was the fourth most damaging storm in Central Hudson’s history, knocking out power to 117,000 of our customers,” Jenkins says. “Finding ways to improve is to double down on the things that we know were working. Some of that involves logistical response.”

New York state was less impressed by the storm response by a number of utility companies, including Central Hudson, ultimately reaching a $1.5 million settlement.

“With the PSC saying they haven’t found any violations or faults in our process, we did agree there were areas where we could improve, which is why we agreed to put that money toward storm hardening, but we’re still ultimately proud of our response,” Jenkins says.

Con Edison and Orange and Rockland also settled with the state for a total of $82 million.
