Construction of noise barriers along the southbound side of the new Tappan Zee Bridge is ongoing, and some residents say the noise is not as bad as it once was.

Christina Olsen lives at the Eagle Rock Apartments in South Nyack, located near the construction. She says that while there is a lot of noise, it has not been so bad since she received new windows, paid for by the bridge builders.

Longtime South Nyack homeowner Gino Silvestri says he understands that noise is to be expected when building a new bridge, and is glad it will soon go away.

Tappan Zee Constructors is making a major push this week on a number of important projects that include installing sheet piles for the new bridge pier, in addition to the concrete noise barriers.

Officials say there is no concrete date set for completion of the sound barriers. They insist that once erected, residents closest to the Nyack side of the bridge will hear considerably less noise.
