Family and friends gathered Friday night to remember the third teenager who was killed this year in Mount Vernon.
A "nine night" was held for Tamani Turner.
A "nine night" is a Jamaican tradition with African roots. Nine days after someone dies, some believe their spirit leaves the body, so that's when family and friends come together to celebrate their life.
Tamani Turner, also known as "Tee," was 18 years old when he was fatally shot last week during the day at Garden Avenue and East Fourth Street.
Police have not yet said what the circumstances around the shooting were, but arrested 33-year-old Akeem Grant, of Mount Vernon.
Turner's funeral will be next week.
