An MTA bus driver was assaulted Saturday night, according to the Yonkers Police Department.
Investigators say it happened in the area of Riverdale and Ellsworth Avenues.
Police say shortly before 8:30 pm on Saturday, there was a minor collision between an MTA bus and another vehicle. They say that the collision caused both drivers to exit their vehicles.
Police say the other driver attacked the bus driver and threw him to the ground before running away.
Transport Workers Union President John Chiarello says that the MTA driver is a 13-year veteran named Johnny Rodriguez.
Chiarello says he's disgusted.
"I'm not just talking about a slap. This is life-threatening injuries. So, you know, I would say this to people, this could be your mother, your father, your sister, your brother. We're human beings. We move New York, we don't come to work to get knocked out and nearly killed," said Chiarello.
Chiarello says Rodriguez is still in the hospital.
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said in a statement, "Transit employees are just trying to do their jobs getting millions of New Yorkers where they need to go. Assaults against them are unacceptable and when this perpetrator is caught, they must face consequences to the maximum extent of the law."
The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
