News 12 got a behind-the-scenes look at the medical marijuana dispensary in White Plains ahead of its grand opening.
From the outside, Vireo Health on East Post Road looks like a typical high-end doctor's office. But on the inside, contractors are putting the final touches on a facility set to make medical history in New York state.
When open, the White Plains office will be one of two dispensaries in Westchester County; the other being in Yonkers.
Security in the facility is tight, with cameras present everywhere. Patients need a prescription from a certified doctor and to be on a state database to be eligible for use.
The dispensary will administer marijuana in three forms: pills, oil and vapor.
Officials say they don't expect the substance to be a hit right away as the public and even fellow doctors are still learning about it.
Marijuana is still a federally controlled substance, meaning that its use is not covered by health insurance and treatment could cost patients several hundred dollars a month.
