Yonkers celebrated Italian culture and community Sunday with its 99th annual Columbus Day celebration, bringing families, local leaders and visitors together for a day of food, music and tradition.
The festivities began with a street fair at noon, where vendors lined the area as families stopped for food, shopped and enjoyed the celebration before the parade stepped off at 1 p.m.
The parade traveled from Seminary Avenue to Midland Avenue and along Mile Square Road, drawing a large crowd along the route. This year’s grand marshal was Rella Fogliano of McQuesten Development.
Organizers described the annual event as a warm, family-friendly celebration of Italian heritage, with people coming together to eat, dance and celebrate. Despite the weather, the community still came out and made the most of the tradition.
