Newburgh man accused of trying to set Central Hudson worker on fire

A Newburgh man is facing charges for allegedly trying to set a Central Hudson worker on fire while the employee was on the job, according to City of Newburgh police.
Police say it happened around 2:23 p.m. on Dec. 1 on South Miller Street, where officers were dispatched for a report of a disorderly man harassing a Central Hudson employee.
When officers arrived, they found both the worker and the suspect, 19-year-old Jerson Perez-Sanchez of the City of Newburgh. Authorities say he held a lighter under the Central Hudson vehicle and then picked up a stick and menaced the worker.
Perez-Sanchez was arrested and charged with arson in the fourth degree and menacing in the second degree, both class A misdemeanors.
A representative for Central Hudson, Joe Jenkins, said by statement, "A nearby witness contacted local authorities who subsequently apprehended the individual. The safety and well-being of our employees and communities is always our top priority {and} we are grateful that the Central Hudson employee was not harmed in this incident."
