Police in New Rochelle discovered an arsenal of illegal weapons and ammunition at the apartment of a man who shot himself Wednesday.
According to police, they received a call from James Toglia?s therapist Wednesday saying his patient was suicidal. When police arrived at the Centre Avenue apartment, Toglia had already shot himself in the head. Police say he is now brain dead. Police say they confiscated dozens of handguns, military-style rifles and rounds of ammunition from Toglia?s apartment.
Police say Toglia was sent to St. Vincent?s Hospital in 2004 for a psychiatric evaluation after he exhibited erratic behavior. Toglia had a pistol permit and weapons at the time, which were taken away. Police are now investigating how he obtained so many illegal weapons in the past two years.
