Two new multimillion-dollar beverage and entertainment spaces in Orange County could help transform the area's tourism economy.

A knitting factory that dates back to 1890 in Montgomery will soon be a $5 million winery and event space. The space was bought by the owners of the one of the most successful performance venues in state, City Winery and the Knitting Factory in New York City.

An old prison building in Warwick will also soon be transformed into a craft beer brewery with a beer garden out back that will overlook 650 acres of parkland. The new $2.7 million brewery is from the same owners of Pine Island Brewery.

County tourism director Amanda Dana says both developments will be a financial windfall for the area.

“The real big impact is going to be those visitors and those visitors’ dollars that will increase the spending in area,” she says.

Dana expects thousands to travel to Montgomery Mills in particular or what will soon be called City Winery Hudson Valley

The Warwick brewery will start pouring pints next spring. City Winery Hudson Valley is slated to open fall 2019.
