5ds agoA new initiative is being unveiled at some Department of Motor Vehicles locations in the Hudson Valley aimed at keeping teenage drivers safe behind the wheel.
It’s called “Parents as Driving Partners,” and is being launched at DMV’s in Orange, Dutchess, Putnam and Columbia counties. The initiative encourages parents to talk to their teens about safe driving habits when they get their learner’s permits and holds them accountable for driving safely.
“We are seeing a great uptick in car accidents throughout the county and the region,” says Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta. “We are trying to help reduce those numbers by having parents make an agreement with their children to see what they’re doing on the roads.”
Families will be provided with pamphlets at DMV’s in the four participating counties that include driving tips, resources and a parent-teen driving agreement to help promote safe practices behind the wheel
