Police in Mount Vernon say the victim of a fatal shooting Saturday was most likely targeted.
According to police, 29-year-old Jawara Miller was discovered around 5 a.m. on First Street with a gunshot wound to the head. Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says detectives are trying to piece together a motive and find suspects.
Miller, the father of a young daughter, lived in the Bronx, but his mother lives on 12th Avenue, just blocks away from the killing. Chong says Miller may have been on his way to visit his mother. Cops are also looking into other reasons he could have been in the area, as police say the neighborhood is known for drugs.
Miller?s killing is the seventh homicide in the city this year. Police say they have made arrests in five of the cases.
