Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis pleaded guilty Tuesday to not filing taxes.
Davis appeared in White Plains Federal Court Tuesday morning. He admitted to two misdemeanor charges for failing to file a corporate tax return for the sale of a rental property at 1416 Sandford Blvd. East in Mount Vernon in 2003. He sold the property after it burned to the ground.
In addition, the 76-year-old also filed his 2011 personal tax return late despite being granted an extension.
He faces up to two years in prison when he is sentenced in January. The mayor was released on his own recognizance.
The charges were a result of an eight-year probe of Davis' finances.
Davis told News 12 that he has no plans to abandon his post at mayor.
City Council President Richard Thomas stands to become mayor if Davis is forced to resign and serve prison time.
