Saks Global has announced that The Westchester Mall's Neiman Marcus location will stay open after announcing its closure two weeks ago.
In a statement, Saks Global shared that the decision came after recent conversations with landlords and further evaluation.
"It is a very big anchor store at The Westchester, and The Westchester still seems to be very vibrant. So, I would like to see that continue," said White Plains resident Kathy Schick.
The company announced the store's closure earlier this month.
It was one of the 15 Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus locations slated to close.
The announcement was made after Saks Global filed for bankruptcy, in an effort to keep store locations in markets with a high concentration of luxury shoppers for profitability.
Many in the area say having the store stay in the community is important for those who prefer shopping in person.
"I'm happy to hear that the Neiman Marcus is no longer closing. It's good to hear that in-person retail is still alive and well," said Evan Song, who works in the area.
"It's convenient to shop online, but I think it's important to keep the stores open and to have that walkability. I know my daughter, my family, we like to go to the mall. It's a tradition. I did with my family, so we like to carry that on," said Amber Thomas, who also works in the area.
News 12 contacted Simon Property Group, which operates the mall, for comment and is waiting to hear back.
